Once a Mediterranean species, the Little Egret arr

Once a Mediterranean species, the Little Egret arrived as a breeding bird in the mid 1990s.

Within three decades it has become a familiar sight along rivers like the Great Ouse and you’ll spot this compact, brilliant-white hunter stalking shallow margins for fish and invertebrates across our parks in Buckingham.

With over 700 breeding pairs now resident year-round the Little Egret is a conservation success story but one with an uncomfortable footnote: the shift to the UK is due to climate change.

Sombre scenes captured following #StormBert in and around Buckingham today. Forecasts for the next couple of days are for drier weather but, in the meantime, our thoughts are with those who will be doing their best to dry out and/or assess the damage.

Reminder to anyone attempting to drive through flood water of the potential impact of bow waves on adjacent properties.

The @envagency update at 15:53 was:

“River levels remain high in response to the recent rainfall from Storm Bert.

Flooding is expected.

Areas most at risk are Fulwell, Tingewick Mill, Radclive, and Glynswood Road, School Lane, Nelson Street, Hunter Street, Chandos Road, Well Street, Victoria Row, Ford Street, Candleford Court, Stratford Road and Marsh Edge in Buckingham.

The weather forecast is for drier conditions this evening and into tomorrow.

Take care on riverside roads and footpaths, and don’t put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation.

We will update this message by 10am tomorrow, 26/11/2024.”
